Special Report: Animoca Brands (ASX:AB1) has led a $2.1m investment into Sky Mavis, the maker of Axie Infinity, one of the world’s highest-grossing blockchain games.
Axie Infinity, a digital collectible pet game built on the Ethereum blockchain, is one of the world’s most popular games in the sector, boasting more than $1.6m in sales.
And Animoca Brands is getting in on the action, with a $610,000 investment into Sky Mavis via a cash and scrip deal.
It has also signed agreements to receive expert advisory and consultation services from Sky Mavis, specifically in the areas of scarcity models and non-fungible tokens, as well as opportunities to explore future collaboration.
That’s not to mention the recent access it gained to big names like Disney, Marvel, HBO, CBS and the NBA by acquiring digital collectibles marketplace Quidd.
“We are very pleased and honoured to invest in and work with Sky Mavis, who has built up Axie Infinity into one of the most successful and popular blockchain games on the market,” Yat Siu, the company’s co-founder and chairman, said.
“We look forward to a fruitful relationship.”
Sky Mavis is a blockchain game developer based in Singapore and Vietnam, and it has raised a total of $2.13m from Animoca Brands, as lead investor, and from Hashed, Pangea Blockchain Fund, ConsenSys, and 500 Startups.
Sky Mavis says it will use the funds to accelerate the development of Axie Infinity to include more features and to continue pushing the blockchain gaming industry forward.
