Special Report: The Addams Family is back, and Animoca Brands is well positioned to profit from the latest adventures of Morticia and Gomez.

Excitement is building among movie goers with the pending release of The Addams Family, MGM’s Interactive’s animated remake of the hilarious (and slightly scary) American tale.

And through its wholly-owend subsisidary Pixowl, gaming company Animoca Brands (ASX: AB1) is all set to launch an interactive video game based on the upcoming movie.

The Addams Family Mystery Mansion mobile game will launch globally on Android and iOS before the end of the September quarter.

Pixowl has rights to release the game via a licensing deal between with MGM, effective through to 31 December 2024 (unless extended by both parties).

The game will be free to download and play, with optional in-app purchases available for gamers to improve their fortunes. MGM will receive a portion of the revenues generated as part of a royalty agreement.

Coinciding with the release of the movie, The Addams Family Mystery Mansion will form an important part of Animoca’s strategy to capitalise on the market for in-game purchases, which account for around half of the $US140 billion global video game market.

Gamers will help Morticia and Gomez – the Addams Family parents – to reunite all the members of their family and refurbish their home.

Players will follow an original story line including plenty of amusing dialog, with the opportunity to collect their favourite characters and furnish the Addams Family mansion to their own specifications.

Yat Siu, non-executive chairman of Animoca Brands, told Stockhead the team is having more fun than ever with its latest project.

“We are incredibly excited to be working on such a fascinating and enduring brand as the Addams Family, with its winning comedic horror and some of the most memorable theme music of all time. We are whistling and snapping our fingers as we build this game,” he said.

The animated remake of The Addams Family will open in cinemas globally on 11 October 2019.
