Caspin Resources (ASX:CPN) is the talk of the town today after making a “ground breaking” rare earths discovery at the Mount Squires project in WA.
The Cassini Resources spin-off says this is the first discovery of significant REE mineralisation in the West Musgrave province and one of relatively unique style in Australia.
Given the more obvious prospectivity for nickel, copper, and gold, rare earth potential at the project had not been investigated until now.
Stand out REE intersections include 46m at 7,102ppm TREO with a higher-grade zone of 22m at 12,545ppm TREO.
Gold explorer Matsa Resources (ASX:MAT) is higher after receiving first assays from its April drill program at the Fortitute North prospect within the wider Lake Carey project.
This has added significant size and scale to the mineralised system, which independent economic geologist Nigel Mound says compares favourably to the 12Moz Sunrise Dam gold mine just 23km to the north in the same regional geological structure.
Pivoting over to lithium land now, Anson Resources (ASX:ASN) has hit the ‘go’ button on drilling preparations at the Paradox project in Utah.
The company is looking to extract lithium from brines contained in a historic oil well field in the Paradox Basin, placing it as one of the best positioned companies to benefit from the Inflation Reduction Act and push to grow America’s nascent lithium extraction industry.
At this stage, the plan is to re-enter two wells known as Mineral Canyon Fed 1-3 and Sunburst 1 to sample brines in the thick Mississippian units and Pennsylvania clastic horizons.
And fellow lithium explorer Askari Metals (ASX:AS2) has inked a $2.5m investment from $18bn global battery and cobalt stock, Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Co.
Huayou intends to grow its equity position in the company to 9.9% and will have the option to appoint a nominee to the board of Askari.
Meanwhile, Orbital Corporation (ASX:OEC) – a Perth-based manufacturer of engine systems for military drones – has signed a $3m engine development contract with Anduril Industries.
The contract revolves around the development of a larger engine configuration for Anduril’s future propulsion requirements, which will be supplied to the company for ground testing by January 2024.
