Rock chip sampling returning assays of up to 2.3% Li2O have confirmed the presence of multiple large, strike extensive lithium-bearing pegmatites at Reach Resources’ Morrisey Hill project in WA.

The pegmatites, which are interpreted to be of the spodumene-petalite subtype, also returned up to 4,295 parts per million caesium and 705.8ppm tantalum at the Bonzer prospect.

While the results are certainly encouraging for Reach Resources (ASX:RR1), it is also clear that it is only just starting to scratch the surface of what is present at its tenements in the Yinnetharra region within WA’s Gascoyne Province.

Chief executive officer Jeremy Bower noted that the results were “seriously good” given that the company only had time to target a small percentage of the total outcropping pegmatites on site and that there are more than 50 pegmatites that remain untested over its three projects there.

“We are particularly excited about the Bonzer Prospect, which is a clear walk-up drill target,” he added.

“We now have consistently high lithium grades from this very large pegmatite which is at least 1.5 km long with lithium bearing minerals at surface.

Our field crews are heading back to site next week to commence systematic surface geochemical sampling which should deliver a pipeline of additional target areas to those which we have recently identified. These results make our upcoming drill program very exciting for the Company and shareholders.”

Nor is Reach the only company to have noticed the prospectivity of the region with others such as Delta Lithium and Minerals 260 also taking up big positions.

Lithium trio

The company holds the Morrissey Hill, Camel Hill and Wabli Creek projects which cover a total area of 232km2 in the Yinnetharra region.

All three are prospective for lithium and rare earths mineralisation with the assays returned from a limited scope helicopter supported reconnaissance rock chip sampling program aimed at confirming historical mapping and sampling results as well as targeting outcropping pegmatites identified by independent geological experts RSC.

That significant lithium results were noted in the Bonzer and Malibu prospects at Morrissey Hill and at the Single Fin prospect at Wabli Creek just serves to underscore their lithium prospectivity.

Bonzer outcrops over a 1.5km strike length with high-grade rock chip assays returned over a strike length of 150m from within the central zone.

The pegmatites here are oriented east-west and intrude metasediments of the Leake Springs Metamorphics Group – the same sequence which is host to Delta Lithium’s Malinda and Jameson Lithium Prospects located east and west of Morrissey Hill respectively.

Reach noted that numerous pegmatites marginal to the plane of this major pegmatite remain untested and will be the subject of detailed surface rock chip, geochemical soil and/or stream sediment sampling over the coming month.

Malibu outcrops over 500m and is located about 3km southeast of Bonzer.

Recent sampling has returned solid lithium values up to 6,524 ppm (0.65%) Li2O as well as elevated caesium, tantalum and rubidium values which indicate a highly evolved lithium bearing pegmatite.

The company has also received highly anomalous lithium and lithium pathfinder assay results from Single Fin where it plans to carry out more rock chip sampling together with geochemical soil and stream sediment sampling to identify any further potential lithium bearing pegmatites.

There does seem to be a bright future in Reach.
