Hartshead has strengthened the development project management team for its UK Southern Gas Basin Phase I with the appointment of Stephen McCraith as its wells manager.

The company is fast-tracking development of the project, which seeks to bring the Anning and Somerville fields, with combined Proved and Probable (2P) reserves of 301.5 billion cubic feet of gas, into production.

With over 33 years’ of experience delivering major drilling programs in the UK North Sea, McCraith will bring his wealth of operating experience to the delivery of six horizontal multi-frac wells for the Phase I development – successful execution of which is its key value driver.

This includes years spent with Shell International and Shell UK Exploration and Production in rig superintendent and drilling operations manager roles where McCraith was responsible for all types of drilling operations, including exploration and development drilling, infill drilling, well testing, coiled tubing operations and other well intervention services.

McCraith also worked for several other UK North Sea operators and service companies, such as Talisman Energy, KCA Deutag Drilling and Premier Oil/Harbour Energy, in senior well engineering roles including the recent Tolmount field development in the UK Southern Gas Basin.

Hartshead Resources (ASX:HHR) chief executive officer Chris Lewis said the company had no doubt that McCraith’s considerable expertise and valuable contribution will ensure successful delivery of its Phase I drilling program.

UK Southern Gas Basin project

The Phase I development of the UK Southern Gas Basin project will see the six wells that McCraith will oversee connected to two wireline-capable Normally Unmanned Installation (NUI) platforms.

These platforms will in turn transport the extracted gas via a subsea pipeline to third-party infrastructure – likely Shell’s Southern North Sea infrastructure – for onward transportation and processing into the UK’s gas transmission network.

Peak production is estimated to be about 140 million standard cubic feet per day with first production expected in late 2024.

Front-end engineering and design work is currently being fast-tracked while Hartshead continues to progress an investment process for industry partnering following growing interest in the project.
