A district-wide evaluation has identified new gold prospects over 100km in strike within the Tanami gold province, host to more than 18Moz of gold.

These gold targets, which have been generated using similar analogues to that of Newmont Corporations (NYSE:NEM) Callie Gold Mine, and Northern Star’s (ASX:NST) Kookaburra and Coyote gold mines, are on top of the 95km of rare earths strike recently identified at Killi’s Tanami Gold Project.

Demonstrating a camp-scale opportunity, three corridors have been established over the project to prioritise Killi’s (ASX:KLI) gold exploration strategy and represent the major gold systems they are associated with, Callie Corridor, Kookaburra Trend, and the Coyote Corridor.

Now the company is making plans for drilling in the 2022 field season with field work to begin as soon as possible.

A massive opportunity awaits

KLI chief executive officer Kathryn Cutler said the company is in a well-endowed gold district in the Tanami region.

“Callie was found on a 50ppb gold geochemical anomaly and has produced over eight million ounces of gold to date,” she said.

“The size and scale of the existing geochemical anomalies gives weight to the opportunity that there could be a gold deposit similar to that of Callie, on the WA side of the border, on Killi’s ground.”

Through geological and geophysical data, Killi has identified that the highly prospective fault structure from the Callie gold mine crosses through the centre of its northern tenement, more commonly known as the D5 fault structure within the Tanami Gold Project.

Exploration for rare earths and gold to take place concurrently

Mapping and field reconnaissance will begin on the project within the first quarter of 2022, while all final access approvals are received.

A close-spaced low-flown magnetics survey will then be conducted in the second quarter of 2022, as well as a rock chip geochemical program over the project area.

While the gold opportunity is significant, the potential for rare earths is also highly promising.

Gold and rare earth hydrothermal deposits may exist within the same geological setting and feature and therefore exploration for both commodities will run concurrently.
