Not all breads are equal and if the Irish Supreme Court is to be believed, the bread used by fast food chain Subway is not even close to bread.
The reason? Apparently, Subway’s bread contains too much sugar – 10 per cent of its weight – to be considered bread in Ireland, which sets 2 per cent as the limit, and is therefore not exempt from paying value added tax.
Markets are down today but here are the biggest ASX small cap movers.
ASX SMALL CAP WINNERS
Pleidmont LIthium (ASX:PLL) +125%
Unsurprisingly, Pleidmont takes the top spot this week after winning a spodumene supply contract with electric car trailblazer Tesla.
The company will deliver about a third of its planned spodumene concentrate production of 160,000 tonnes per annum from its North Carolina deposit to Tesla for an initial five-year term.
Tesla may increase the size of the order at its option and the agreement may be extended by mutual agreement for a second five-year term.
RareX (ASX:REE) +62%
RareX’s infill drilling has returned outstanding rare earth hits from surface, increasing the likelihood that its goal of upgrading resources at the Cummins Range project to the higher confidence indicated category will be achieved.
Further assays are expected over the coming weeks.

ASX SMALL CAP LOSERS
Shares in Chase Mining dived today after news that its six deep diamond holes drilled at the Lorraine Mine failed to validate the historically reported high-grade gold mineralisation from the mine’s sixth level (about 300m deep) development drives.
The company said this was not expected as all holes had intersected the original Footwall Contact Target Zone (FCTZ) along with additional deeper veining and brecciation and, importantly, intense alteration zones below the FCTZ.
