News
Here are the key ASX small cap winners and losers at lunch Thursday October 4:
The ASX Small Ords was up 9.8 points or 0.34 per cent to 2,867.4 at 12.50pm AEST.
GOING UP
Orthocell (ASX:OCC) rose 10 per cent this morning to an intraday high of 28.5c on the back of news that its artificial membrane CelGro helps accelerate bone regrowth.
The trial, done in rats, paired CelGro with bone growth factors, indicated that Orthocell’s technology “can accelerate and augment the repair of fractures with cortical bone defects”.
Eden Innovations (ASX:EDE) got a speeding ticket from the ASX, with its stock rising 56 per cent in the past two days despite the company not having any news out.
Today alone it rose 25 per cent to an intraday high of 8.6c, with nearly $2 million worth of shares trading hands.
Eden told the ASX late yesterday it was not aware of any unannounced information, citing recent positive announcements as the reason for the sudden spike in price and volumes.
Gina Rinehart-backed Lakes Oil (ASX:LKO) doubled in price to 0.2c after confirming it would appeal after losing a court battle to over-turn Victoria’s gas ban.
The appeal won’t take place until sometime next year though — and the stock has bounced between 0.1c and 0.4c over the past year.
Lakes Oil — which is 11 per cent owned by Ms Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting — last month lost its fight to overturn Victoria’s ban on gas exploration.
The Victorian Supreme Court rejected Lakes Oil’s claims that the government’s state‐wide moratorium on on‐shore gas exploration was unlawful or ineffective.
Cauldron Energy (ASX:CXU) shares rose 26 per cent to an intraday high of 3.9c after it told investors of a farm-in agreement with Oceltip Metals, whereby Oceltip will fund $2 million of exploration at Cauldron sites.

GOING DOWN
Galan Lithium (ASX:GLN) shares dropped 20 per cent to an intraday low of 25.5c, with $217k worth of shares trading hands, after geophysical results showed brine potential at its Argentinian site.
The company said the results were “very conductive and shallow units that are compatible with units being saturated with brine, which constitute a great potential for lithium exploration”.
Meanwhile biotech darling Biotron (ASX:BIT) fell back after rising 742 per cent this week to highs of 16c from 1.9c last week.
Biotron boss Dr Michele Miller told Stockhead today that “the main next step for us is to partner — we’d like a partner to fund the next stage of development”.
Profit-takers pushed the shares back to 10.5c by 1pm AEST today.
