Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: Who’s about to erupt today?

Utah’s Wah Wah Springs — the supervolcano with an adorable name and a deadly past — was 30 times bigger than the legendary Yellowstone, which last erupted more than 640,000 years ago.

(Some reckon we’re overdue another big one, but as one expert says  — that could be “500,000 years from now or a week from Tuesday”. Makes it hard to plan for.)

Wah Wah’s last tantrum was also 5,000 times larger than the 1980s eruption of Mount St Helens, which killed 57 people, reduced hundreds of square miles to wasteland, and deposited ash in 11 US states.

And it is considered to be dormant, but not extinct. Yeah, we all know how this movie ends.

A lot of movement on no news today, led by struggling wave farmer Carnegie Clean Energy (ASX:CCE) +50 per cent, Pancontinental Oil and Gas (ASX:PCL) +33 per cent, and Galan Lithium (ASX:GLN) +30 per cent.

The only major mover to release something this morning was ‘cannabis-adjacent’ small cap Roots Sustainable Agriculture (ASX:ROO), which signed a distribution agreement into Italy for its temperature-optimisation indoor farming tech.

Roots said the deal offered “clearly defined sales targets totalling €3,500,000 (+$5.6m)” through to 2023.

Shares – which are down 58 per cent over the past year — rose ~20 per cent to 4.2c in early trade.

Biotron (ASX:BIT) – which is currently testing some of its compounds against coronavirus – dropped 14.2 per cent in morning trade.

This comes as the fight against the virus “takes a turn for the worse”, according to CBS, with the Chinese reporting 242 new deaths and 14,840 new cases in the Hubei province. Go figure.
