ASX Small Cap Winners Aug 31-Sep 7

Tiny Papua New Guinea gold explorer Niuminco Group (ASX:NIU) doubled to 0.2c this week after telling investors that exploration at its Edie Creek mine revealed increased gold and silver potential.

It was welcome news for the ASX junior, which earlier this week revealed it received a wind-up notice, lost two exploration permits and was facing cash flow issues.

Applications for extensions of two permits separate to Edie Creek had been rejected. The company (ASX:NIU) was considering whether to re-apply for the tenements.

Managing director Tracey Lake told Stockhead they still have a “highly prospective” tenement called Iku Hill where they may look at accelerating exploration.

Consolidated Zinc (ASX:CZL) was on the move, jumping 87 per cent to 1.5c, after announcing it had started mining at its Plomosas zinc, lead and silver site in northern Mexico.

The stock reached its highest point since the start of the year when it resolved to remove one of its board members.

Property investor Desane Group (ASX:DGH) rose 36 per cent to $1.50 after it announced the sale of a Sydney property to the government’s Roads and Maritime Service.

It has been quite the saga. Back in August last year, the RMS offered $18.4 million, market value, for the compulsory acquisition of the property.

But Desane wanted $100 million in compensation and took it to the Supreme Court. Its chairman Professor John Sheehan told Stockhead at the time that they’d happened to pick a fight with a property rights expert.

The matter has finally been resolved, with the RMS paying $78 million for the property.

Newly listed solar window maker ClearVue (ASX:CPV) moved ahead 24 per cent to 44c after posting a 784 per cent upturn in full-year revenue, making $504,919 compared with just $57,000 a year earlier.

ClearVue’s  technology allows sun going through glass windows to be converted into energy.

ClearVue listed on the ASX back in May after launching a $6 million IPO to fund its operations.

The company’s full-year loss, however, ballooned to $3.4 million which was 158 per cent worse than in 2017, largely due to costs and expenses blowing out by 183 per cent to $3.9 million.

ClearVue said it had “successfully moved forward on multiple fronts” since listing and was looking ahead to a watershed year.

Coughing app maker ResApp (ASX:RAP) gained 20 per cent to 23.5c following positive results from an Australian paediatric study aimed at diagnosing respiratory disease using a smart phone app.

“Even with all the information available to us in a modern, well-equipped hospital we still face difficulties in diagnosing childhood respiratory diseases,” said study investigator Dr Paul Porter.

“These excellent prospective results, obtained without the need to examine the patient or perform investigations, will give clinicians significantly more confidence in their diagnosis of respiratory disease, especially in tele-health and emergency department settings.”

We’re still awaiting news on its stop-start American trial — the one that failed last year.

ASX Small Cap Losers Aug 31-Sep 7

It wasn’t a great week for the ill-named Reverse Corp (ASX:REF).

Reverse Corp told investors on Monday it would shut down its 1800-Reverse service after Telstra terminated an agreement so the service would no longer work on the telco’s mobile network.

“Management estimate the change would negatively impact EBITDA earnings by $65,000 per month.

“This follows the recent decision by Optus to restrict 1800-Reverse calls to Optus mobiles.”

The stock dropped 64 per cent to 3.5c for the week.
