Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: who’s on a giant-killing run

Here are the key ASX small cap winners and losers at lunch Wednesday, Sep 5:

The ASX Small Ords was down 12.7 points or 0.4 per cent to 2,864.8 at 1pm AEST.

GOING UP

Frontier Diamonds (ASX:FDX) jumped 22 per cent to an intraday high of 6.1c after showing of a huge 112 carat diamond it dug up in South Africa.

The 111.5 carat stone weighs more than 22 grams. It’s the biggest sparkler so far recovered from Frontier’s Bellsbank project in central South Africa. Up until now the biggest stone was only 1.5 carats.

Consolidated Zinc (ASX:CZL) was today’s biggest small cap mover, doubling to an intraday high of 1.6c, after it started mining at its “Plomosas” zinc, lead and silver site in northern Mexico. Some 28 million shares traded hands this morning.

It’s the highest point for CZL since December. Its lunchtime price of 1.4c was also the highest point since January, back when it resolved to remove one of its board members.

Venus Metals (ASX:VMC) continued the good morning for listed junior miners, rising 48 per cent to an intraday high of 23c.

Venus’s board told investors they had made a “major breakthrough” at its Youanmi vanadium mine in Western Australia, finding oxide vanadium ores.

3D data company Pointerra (ASX:3DP) put out an update on its enterprise sales this morning, which pleased investors, who sent the stock up 36 per cent to an intraday high of 3.4 cents.

The highlight was its longest-running enterprise customer (in the ‘Utility’ sector but unnamed) doubling its subscription to Pointerra’s technology.

GOING DOWN

It wasn’t a great morning for the ill-named Reverse Corp (ASX:REF). The stock dropped 69 per cent to an intraday low of 2.8c.

Reverse Corp — the company behind 1800-Reverse — told investors on Monday that Telstra had terminated an agreement so the service would no longer work on the telco’s mobile network.
