Sunstone has uncovered proof about the scale of its Brama-Alba porphyry discovery in Ecuador after intersecting a thick 202m intersection grading 0.88g/t gold equivalent.

The best intersection to date at the discovery was made in hole BMDD034 from a down-hole depth of 148m and includes a 42m zone grading 1 gram per tonne gold equivalent (0.74g/t gold and 0.14% copper) from 252m – in line with grades observed in many well-known porphyry projects.

Adding further interest for Sunstone Metals (ASX:STM), the area of mineralisation around the hole remains open while current adjacent drilling is delivering promising visual results.

This further strengthens the outlook for the upcoming maiden JORC resource for the discovery especially given other assays such as 401.2m at 0.58g/t gold equivalent from 31.5m including 50m at 1.01 gold equivalent from 102m (BMDD019) and 72.7m at 0.68g/t gold equivalent from surface in BMDD029.

“This is a very good intersection in BMDD034 with width and strong grade and will be included in our upcoming initial Mineral Resource Estimate,” managing director Malcolm Norris said.

“It is abundantly clear that we have a large gold-copper porphyry system at the Alba end of the 1.2km long Brama-Alba porphyry deposit, which remains open in several directions.

“It is also worthy to note that the gold equivalent calculation is based on gold and copper only, and yet we are seeing very consistent silver values through all mineralised drill holes, as well as domains of elevated molybdenum.”

Ongoing exploration

Drilling is ongoing at Brama-Alba, which remains open in a number of directions, with four rigs working around the clock to ensure adequate drill coverage for the initial resource estimate.

The company is also working up multiple adjacent targets for drilling to enable delivery of an Exploration Target which will position the company to deliver additional discoveries at the Bramaderos project during 2022.

“These will be high value discoveries because they will enable expansion of whatever initial MRE is delivered,” Norris added.

Bramaderos project is located immediately adjacent to the Pan American highway and is close to available hydroelectric power.

It is also supported by nearby commercial airports and significant cities such as Loja.
