Drilling at Red Mountain’s Mt Mansbridge project in WA’s Kimberley region has found that mineralisation at the Solo prospect is heavily skewed towards heavy rare earths.

Hole MMRC007, which was drilled under the Phase II program, intersected two zones of mineralisation – 4m grading 0.496% total rare earth oxide (TREO) with an average 60.7% heavy rare earth oxide (HREO) from a down-hole depth of 88m and 3m at 0.516% TREO with an average 65.7% HREO.

Both intercepts also returned significant amounts of valuable dysprosium and terbium.

It follows Red Mountain Mining’s (ASX:RMX) drilling in 2021 which returned a top result of 5m at 0.316% TREO with HREO’s making up 66.62% of the rare earths content in hole MMRC002.

Solo is a structurally controlled 200m long zone of outcropping REE mineralisation within the Proterozoic aged prospective Killi-Killi Formation.

Other drilling

Separately, drilling at the Déjà vu prospect has returned nickel grades consistent with the presence of a thick ultramafic rock package with results of:

  • 28m at 0.14% nickel, 3,071 parts per million (ppm) chromium and 115ppm cobalt from 57m (MMRC010);
  • 20m at 0.12% nickel, 2,304ppm chromium and 103ppm cobalt (MMRC010);
  • 25m at 0.13% nickel, 2,854ppm chromium and 111ppm cobalt from 109m (MMRC011);
  • 34m at 0.13% nickel, 2,613ppm chromium and 108ppm cobalt from 135m (MMRC011);
  • 8m at 0.16% nickel, 2,895ppm chromium and 118ppm cobalt from 190m (MMRC011); and
  • 9m at 0.17% nickel, 2,693ppm chromium and 118ppm cobalt from 199m (MMRC011).

While the prospect was originally identified and drilled by CRAE between 1991 and 1993 for diamond bearing kimberlites, sporadic sampling and assaying through the ultramafic intrusive unit returned several encouraging cobalt assay results between 70-100m including 0.34%, 0.32% and 0.22% cobalt.

At the Cow Creek prospect, reconnaissance hole MMRC005 intersected arenitic sandstones while MMRC006 struck undifferentiated mafic rock from about 130m with trace pyrite and chalcopyrite present from 155m to end of hole.
