Norwest has good reason to sit back and sip on cocktails after maiden drilling at its Bali project returned broad intervals of significant near-surface copper mineralisation.

Notable intervals from drilling at the Bali Lo, Bali East and Bali South prospects were 52m grading 1.4% copper from surface including 12m at 4.4% copper from 4m (BRC001) and 19m at 0.7% copper from 4m including 1m at 5% copper from 28m (BRC025).

Over at the Bali High prospect, assays added lead, zinc and silver to the mix with top hits of 5m at 1.5% copper, 5.5% zinc including 4m at 8% palladium from a down-hole depth of 35m (BRC016) and 4m at 0.6% copper, 2.1% lead, 0.8% zinc and 21 grams per tonne silver from 107m (BRC032)

There’s potential for more to be found with Norwest Minerals (ASX:NWM) identifying seven copper-rich vein structures in the Deep South area from mapping and rock chip assays.

“This is the first drilling undertaken at Bali since 1989 and we are very encouraged by the results,” chief executive officer Charles Schaus said.

“The program tested each of the four prospects by systematic drilling of holes along strike with the aim of locating the source(s) for the high-grade copper exposed at surface. All prospects returned one or more wide drill intersections of copper mineralisation.

“Also, we have identified additional shear zones across the Deep South area with high grade copper rock chips, with drill planning underway focusing on potential lateral and depth extension of these seven high-grade copper vein structures.”

Copper play

The Bali project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region comprises about 8km of the Bali shear zone; a major structure extending through the region and hosting numerous copper and other base metal prospects.

Bali Lo and Bali High copper prospects saw small-scale mining in the 1960s followed by some shallow drilling though no further work was carried out since 1989 prior to Norwest’s arrival.

Bali East and Bali South were both identified by very high-grade copper in rock chips reported by the company in 2018.
