• Kingsland Minerals confirms Leliyn is now Australia’s largest graphite deposit
  • Inferred resource of 14.2Mt contained graphite grading @ 7.3%
  • Estimate based on just 4km of the 20km outcropping schist

Special Report: The maiden resource for Kingsland Minerals’ Leliyn project in the Northern Territory has been confirmed as Australia’s largest inferred contained graphite deposit with a whopping 14.2Mt.

With 51 RC and 11 diamond core drill holes completed across the project area since maiden drilling kicked off in May last year, Kingsland Minerals (ASX:KNG) is sitting on a monster of a flake graphite deposit – especially since just 4km of the identified 20km outcropping graphitic schist was part of the mineral resource estimate (MRE).

KNG took over historical exploration from Thundelarra Exploration – now Ora Gold (ASX:OAU) – which drilled a couple of holes prior to and including 2015, with samples returning up to 10.1% TGC while the company was hunting uranium and gold mineralisation.

Taking over the project to concentrate on the area’s graphite endowment now looks to be a masterstroke by KNG.

In under a year, the explorer has delineated an inferred 194.6Mt @7.3% TGC 14.2Mt contained graphite deposit at Leliyn – the largest of its kind in Australia and one of the biggest in the world.

KNG’s Leliyn deposit is focused along the contact between the Cullen Granite and Mundogie geological formations.

A 20km-long graphite schist has formed three separate mineralised zones based on a minimal 3% total contained graphite (TGC) cut-off.

Grades were so good last year’s Stage 1 drilling program that KNG went straight to building out the MRE after results delivered best intersections of:

  • 206m @ 10.0% TGC from surface
  • 114m @ 8.0 % TGC from 1m
  • 285m @ 6.1 % TGC from surface
  • 94m @ 7.4 % TGC from 30m
  • 160m @ 5.6 % TGC from 36m

Metallurgical testing is currently in progress and initial data indicates recoveries of 93-95% @ grades of ~90% TGC, implying a marketable graphite concentrate of >94%.

In geo terms, that’s a great result.

“We are very pleased with the maiden MRE at Leliyn,” KNG managing director Richard Maddocks says.

“In less than 12 months, Kingsland Minerals has delineated the largest graphite deposit in Australia, and also one of the largest in the world.

“The demand for graphite is only going to increase and Kingsland is very well placed to develop Leliyn into a globally significant graphite project.

“The initial metallurgical test work is progressing and this, along with the MRE, are important initial steps in developing Leliyn into an important critical minerals project in the Northern Territory.”
