Azure will soon have a better idea of what is present at its Barton project in WA’s world-class Kookynie-Leonora-Laverton gold province with the completion of its 35-hole drill program.

The reverse circulation program totalling 4,039m had targeted three areas – Daisy Corner, Daisy West and Trevan Well – which were considered to be prospective for hosting gold mineralisation.

Success will open up a large exploration play for Azure Minerals (ASX:AZS) given that the project consists of nine tenements (three granted and six under application) covering 888km2 and a contiguous 88km of north-south strike length of the Kookynie-Leonora geological sequence.

Barton contains multiple mineralised trends within greenstone belts, adjacent granite margins and favourable structural settings that are considered prospective for hosting significant gold and base metal mineralisation.

It is also close to numerous historical mines and several large development projects such as Dacian Gold’s Mt Morgans project and Genesis Minerals’ Ulysses gold project, which includes the 232,000oz Puzzle North gold deposit that abuts the southern boundary of Azure’s E40/393.

Despite this, the area has remained mostly unexplored though this might change if the drill program returns encouraging results.

Gold drilling program

A large portion of the program targeted the Daisy Corner target area with 16 holes totalling 1,872m drilled to follow-up on previous drilling which returned several anomalous gold intersections including 24m at 1.07 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from a down-hole depth of 35m (BTRC0009).

Daisy Corner covers potential northern extensions of gold mineralisation present at Genesis’ Puzzle North deposit.

Azure also drilled eight holes totalling 1,086m at Daisy West, a soil-covered, conceptual structural target of crosscutting shear zones associated with a granite-greenstone contact.

No previous drilling has been undertaken in this area, which is located about 1km west of Daisy Corner.

The remaining 11 holes targeted Trevan Well where extensive surface sampling by the company identified gold anomalism associated with altered and quartz-veined weathered rock and where several small historical gold mine workings are present.
