Auroch can be forgiven for feeling a tad excited after Phase 1 drilling over high priority targets at its Kangaroo Hills project in Western Australia’s Goldfields region intersected visual pegmatite lithologies.

The pegmatites were noted in 12 of the 14 holes drilled to test for lithium-caesium-tantalum pegmatites, which reflects the success of the company’s field mapping exercise that had returned a peak assay of 2.37% Li2O.

Intercepts from the program, which is Auroch Minerals’ (ASX:AOU) first lithium-specific exploration drilling program in WA, ranged from 1m to 35m down-hole with several holes intersecting multiple pegmatite units.

All pegmatite intercepts have now been delivered to the laboratory for assaying, with results expected over the next one to two months.

The company has also sent prospective ultra-mafic to mafic contacts for assaying to evaluate their nickel sulphide potential as the underexplored area is considered to be prospective for both LCT pegmatites and nickel sulphides.

Pleasing geology

Auroch technical director Robin Cox said the company was pleased with the geology at Kangaroo Hills given the successful interception of pegmatites in 12 out of the 14 holes drilled.

“We have learnt much about the geometry of the pegmatite, however it is clear that further ground work is required to fully evaluate the potential of this project,” he added.

“We have commenced our geophysical review work and it is anticipated the magnetic litho-structural interpretation will assist in targeting pegmatites where there is no surface expression.”

This work will assist the company in planning a highly targeted second phase of exploration at Kangaroo Hills.

Other work

Auroch has started a target generation review of the greater project area which will commence with a detailed magnetic litho-structural interpretation of the northern half of the Nepean nickel project where pegmatites are believed to have fractionated to LCT pegmatites.

It will also trial a ground based seismic and resistivity survey to assess its overall effectiveness in defining pegmatites below cover and at depth.
