Weekly ASX Small Cap Wrap: Who’s ready to take to the skies again this week?
News
News
Tomorrow 150 passengers will take to the skies with Qantas after several months of travel restrictions.
And the passengers, one of which is yours truly, were that desperate to get back in the air they sold out the flight in just 10 minutes when it went on sale despite it being a flight to nowhere.
The “Great Southern Land” flight will depart Sydney at 10.30am tomorrow and land back in Sydney at 6pm.
But in between, the aircraft — which will be Qantas’ Indigenous livery painted 787 — will fly over a number of Australia’s land marks including the Great Barrier Reef and Uluru.
Passengers have been promised an inflight meal designed by Neil Perry, a surprise celebrity MC, a gift bag and an auction of 747 memorabilia.
Now to markets and this week’s winners and losers…
Estrella Resources (ASX:ESR) +467%
On Thursday Estrella revealed a spectacular nickel-copper-PGE intersection at its flagship Carr Boyd project.
Estrella’s boss said Carr Boyd could now join an elite list of recent Western Australian nickel discoveries such as Chalice Gold Mines’ (ASX:CHN) Julimar discovery. Shareholders evidently agreed.
Douugh (ASX:DOU) +152%
This fintech company was one of 2020’s strongest new listings having entered the bourse via a reverse takeover of Ziptel (ASX:ZIP).
Often labelled a “neobank”, the company describes itself as a wealth management and financial wellness platform.
American Rare Earths (ASX:ARR) +150%
As one of the few rare earths stocks based in the US it has surged in recent days on the potential for it to benefit from Donald Trump’s executive order on critical minerals supply.
The company has projects in Wyoming and Arizona.
Vection (ASX:VR1) +44%
While the virtual reality stock finished the week below its all time highs, it has been a solid week.
Vection started the week by announcing the North American 3D design platform it acquired in March, Mindesk, was joining a major Facebook program aimed at helping VR companies commercialising products.
Then on Thursday, it revealed its welcome into another program – run by Microsoft and building information modelling software maker Autodesk.

As hot as the gold sector has been, individual companies are not completely immune from hiccups and Prodigy Gold shareholders found that out earlier this week.
The company, which has projects in the Tanami gold province straddling the West Australian and Northern Territory border, left shareholders disappointed with its latest exploration results.
The best results were 3m at 0.15 grams per tonne (g/t) of gold at its Tulsa prospect and 1m at 0.27g/t at West Bonanza.
