It may not be Iron Man (the Marvel film series made famous by Robert Downey Jr), but a British inventor has come pretty close.

Richard Browning took off from Brighton Beach in the UK recently in his own personalised jet suit — and managed to break a new speed record while he was at it.

Browning, who’s fond of referring to himself as “Jetman”, reached a top speed of 85mph (around 135kph) — a significant improvement from his last flight in 2017 when he reached 32mph (around 50kph).

By any measure, that seems pretty quick for a solo flight through the air equipped with nothing but a jet-propelled air-suit. Browning said he wanted to prove how far the technology had progressed since his last flight.

Back on land, the ASX wasn’t setting any speed records this morning as the local index fell by 0.04 per cent into midday trade to 6,764. The Small Ords fared fractionally worse, down 0.07 per cent to 2,913 points.

 

Going up

Onling gaming company Esports Mogul (ASX:ESH) held its gains into midday trade, after announcing that Cameron Adams, co-founder of tech unicorn Canva, is joining the company’s board as a non-executive director.

The company cited Adams’ experience in scaling a tech company, while Adams said he was excited by the monetisation opportunities Esports has developed through its esports tournament platform.

And medtech company Admedus (ASX:AHZ), which makes structural components used to improve heart functions, also rose strongly but on no news.

Going down

A number of resources and energy minnows ticked lower in morning trade, although there were no key announcements this morning that formed the catalyst for a major fall.

Explorer Centrex Metals (ASX:CXM) continued its recent run of double-digit declines. The stock has now lost more than 60 per cent since announcing that Mr Poh Kiat had resigned as a director on November 7.
