Southern Cross continues to outline the prospectivity of its Sunday Creek project in Victoria with drilling returning its 16th >100 AuEq gram-metre intercept.
Drill hole SDDSC040 intersected mineralisation in several zones from surface to a down-hole depth of 428.5m with notable results such as 16.8m at 3.4 grams per tonne (g/t) gold equivalent (AuEq) from 116m, 17.9m at 2.7g/t AuEq from 243.2m, and 6m at 3.2g/t AuEq from 416m.
Notably, the last interval represents a new gold-antimony shoot, which extends 50m below and northeast of MDDSC025, which returned a result of 11.7m at 18g/t AuEq from 370m.
Southern Cross Gold (ASX:SXG) also noted that hole SDDSC037, which was drilled to fill a 300m gap in the Gladys shoot, is considered a ‘near-miss’ after intersecting sporadic gold mineralisation from 271.7m to 368.6m and further drilling is now warranted to target higher grades.
Drilling with two rigs and three crews is ongoing at the Apollo, Rising Sun and Golden Dyke areas over a 700m strike with seven holes totalling 1,888m drilled to date and another two currently underway.
More success at Sunday Creek
“Sunday Creek delivers yet again with another 175 g/t AuEq x m cumulative intersection, within a very wide zone,” managing director Michael Hudson said.
“Drillhole SDDSC040 was drilled down the plunge of the diorite-dyke structure that hosts mineralisation, at a higher angle to the high-grade cross cutting structures.”
“This is a significant result as it demonstrates the continuity of mineralisation from surface to great depths within the Apollo shoot, which remains open, while also discovering a new shoot beneath Apollo.”
He added that this discovery is encouraging as the company continued to open new areas of mineralisation as it progressively tests the deepest parts of Sunday Creek.
Testing mineralisation orientation
SDDSC040 was the first hole drilled to test the view that mineralised shoots at Sunday Creek are formed at the intersection of the sub-vertical to shallower dipping 330 degree striking mineralised veins and a steep east-west striking, north dipping structure hosting dioritic dykes and related intrusive breccias.
It was drilled at a higher angle to confirm the continuity of mineralisation within the main Apollo shoot and test the orientation of high-grade structures, both of which it successfully achieved.
Meanwhile, drilling at Apollo is testing the deeper extensions of the multiple shoots which exist within a 225m strike, while Rising Sun exploration is aimed at following up on drill hole MDDSC021 which intersected 21.7m at 6.2g/t AuEq.
