Special Report: Lefroy Exploration is hunting for major gold systems near Kalgoorlie. A comprehensive aircore drilling program, now underway, is designed to systematically test two strong gold trends at the underexplored Hang Glider Hill prospect.

Lefroy’s (ASX:LEX) ‘generative’ (greenfields, or untouched ground) exploration approach is paying off.

The company is currently dialling in a number of potentially large gold targets across two areas — Western Lefroy, a joint venture with miner Gold Fields, and its wholly owned Eastern Lefroy project.

At Eastern Lefroy, a major aircore drilling program is now underway along the Hang Glider Hill (HGH) trend designed to evaluate the entire area.

Shallow, early stage aircore drilling is an efficient way to search for gold systems buried beneath ‘transported’ sand or soil cover.

The prospect was discovered through ground reconnaissance (also known as walking around), researching historic reports, and the recent discovery of gold nuggets by a prospector right near the ridgeline that dominates the landscape.

The largest nugget found weighed 102.3 grams.

Lefroy has now defined two strong trends at HGH that flank the Mt Monger Fault.

Hang Glider Hill including the location of the Mount Monger Fault, gold nugget trend, and extent of the new aircore drill program.

Faults are geological ‘conduits’ or channels for metal-rich fluids and ultimately, can lead to large mineral deposits. That’s what Lefroy is hunting for.

The southern, or main, HGH trend is 3.5km long and coincides with a number of gold nuggets discovered in 2018.

The newly discovered Hang Glider North anomaly — about 500m wide and 2km long so far – has a high-grade ‘core’ 400m long.

A total of 175 aircore holes are planned that will effectively cover the entire HGH area as an early stage initial program.

The drilling program is expected to be completed in July, with results available in August.

This program is part of a larger aircore drilling program that will also evaluate extensions to the Lucky Strike deposit and two areas at Red Dale considered prospective for primary mineralisation.

The entire program will total ~15,000m of drilling.

“It is very pleasing to finally have an aircore drilling program underway at Hang Glider Hill to evaluate the numerous gold-in-auger anomalies and the gold nugget trend in such an under-explored area so close to Kalgoorlie,” managing director Wade Johnson says.

“The program kick starts a larger period of aircore drilling activity for the company exploring newly generated targets that include extensions to the Lucky Strike deposit and Red Dale.”
