Kula’s inventory of lithium targets across its projects has grown yet again after rock chip sampling at the Southern Cross project advanced the Taliah prospect towards being a drill ready target.

First identified from historical BHP diamond core, Taliah has since been advanced by assays of the rock chip samples returning results of up to 214 parts per million (ppm) lithium and 144ppm tantalum along with important pathfinder elements such as tin and beryllium.

This work also substantially expanded the size of the prospect by 1km2 up to 3.5km2 after several key structures were identified.

And if the upgrade of Taliah to drill-ready status isn’t enough, Kula Gold’s (ASX:KGD) reconnaissance work – consisting of mapping and rock chip sampling – has also identified the Sasha prospect about 1.8km to the north of Taliah and the Nadia prospect to the northwest.

“The new Taliah Lithium Prospect in the Southern Cross Project with anomalous lithium and
tantalum mineralisation is advancing to a drill ready prospect,” chief executive officer Ric Dawson said.

“The new Nadia and Sasha Prospects being a first pass programme are also very encouraging with anomalous lithium and pathfinder elements. “These results are important as they provide a geological vector towards a possible orebody below and act as a precursor to the more definitive drilling in the future. The rocks here are ~2.6 billion years old so the evidence at surface provides the clues to a possible orebody in the vicinity.

Southern Cross lithium prospects

The rock chip samples at Taliah, which were collected on a random grid, returned numerous samples with more than 50ppm lithium, 20ppm tantalum, 8ppm tin, 5ppm beryllium, and 80ppm niobium – significantly higher than the background levels.

This confirmed the anomalism outlined in the initial and second surface sampling
programs while refining the areas of lithium anomalism.

A small concurrent ultrafine soil program designed to test a potassium radiometric anomaly near the existing rock chip program has also returned encouraging results and will be followed up by a more extensive and expanded soils program commencing this quarter.Meanwhile, the fractionation ratio of potassium/rubidium at Taliah also provides confidence that a moderate degree of fractionation is occurring which highlights the potential for lithium enrichment with these pegmatite.

Kula will carry out infill geochemistry work to refine drill targets as well as permitting.

Over at Sasha, preliminary reconnaissance work returned anomalous readings of up to 58ppm lithium, 28ppm tantalum and 18ppm beryllium while the same work at Nadia returned up to 36ppm lithium, 119ppm tantalum and 41ppm beryllium.

Rock chip sampling has defined Sasha to an area of 1.8km2 while Nadia appears to cover 600m by 100m from outcrop.

Extensive follow-up ultrafine soil sampling will be carried out this quarter at both prospects.

The company has also moved to increase its landholding by applying for new tenements directly north of these new prospects.
