Great Southern Mining (ASX:GSN) continues to generate outstanding targets at the ‘Duketon ‘gold project in WA. The latest is ‘Amy Clarke’, 3km along strike from Regis Resources’ +300,000oz Erlistoun gold deposit.
A recent regional soil survey program in an unexplored area at Amy Clarke has identified large, kilometre-scale gold anomalies, similar to the surface expression of million-ounce gold deposits in the Duketon district, such as Garden Well.
The soil anomaly strikes almost the entire 4.3km survey area with distinct clusters of higher response forming ‘hotspots’ up to 400m in width and 700m long.
Importantly, gold is associated with ‘pathfinder’ elements like tungsten and bismuth which are less mobile, indicating that the source of the anomalies is less likely to be transported.
A 10,000m aircore (AC) drilling program has been planned and approved. A drill rig is secured to complete the program later this year, Great Southern says.
A Garden Well lookalike
In 2008, the 2.1Moz @ 1.4g/t gold Garden Well deposit was discovered as a result of a small scale aircore (22 hole) program following up on soil anomalies.
The large footprint of Amy Clarke is not dissimilar in scale or tenor of the soil anomaly that led to the discovery of Garden Well, GSN chief exec Sean Gregory says.
“We are excited by these compelling kilometre-scale soil anomalies that have been generated from the recent soil program at Amy Clarke,” he says.
“This area has seen very little exploration due to the thin veneer of cover obscuring any potential mineralisation.
“GSN has planned a 10,000m aircore program over this anomaly. All statutory approvals are in place and a drilling contractor has been booked to complete the program later this year.”
investors can look forward to further drilling results from Southern Star, anticipated to be available for release to the market next week.
The company believes the Southern Star deposit – where previously reported intercepts top out at 59m at 2.1g/t gold — is analogous to both the Ben Hur deposit and the Rosemont (>1Moz) open pit and underground gold mine, situated 4km and 24km northwest along strike respectively.
