Special Report: Great Southern has clearly outlined the potential of the Southern Star prospect at its Duketon gold project after drilling returned outstanding gold hits in multiple holes.

The first batch of results from the reverse circulation drilling returned standout hits such as 59m at 2.1 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from a depth of 53m with higher grade zones of 9m at 4.5g/t gold and 16m at 3.2g/t gold and 46m at 1.2g/t gold from 40m including 11m at 3.4g/t gold.

Great Southern Mining (ASX:GSN) says the results confirm that strong mineralisation is present along the footwall of the same quartz dolerite that hosts Regis’ 390,000 ounce Ben Hur gold deposit 4km along strike on the Rosemont mineralised trend.

This is of great interest to the company given that Southern Star is seen as being analogous to both Ben Hur and the +1Moz Rosemont deposit. They are all hosted in the same quartz dolerite unit and display a very similar style of mineralisation.

It also lends further support to the company’s belief, which it shares with Regis Resources (ASX:RRL), that there are elephants to be found in the broader Duketon Belt.

“The intercept of 59m at 2.1g/t gold is the best ever encountered at Southern Star. It demonstrates that we are onto a very significant gold deposit,” chief executive officer Sean Gregory said.

“The presence of wide, high-grade intersections at the footwall of the quartz dolerite target are helping to define the extent of the high-grade mineralisation and add to our understanding of the plunge geometry.

“More results are anticipated from a further 12 holes drilled at Southern Star and drilling is ongoing at One Weight Wonder and at other regional prospects across our 100% owned Duketon Gold Project.”

Southern Star drilling

The company has completed 3,421m of drilling at Southern Star in this program, which is intended to establish continuity of mineralisation along strike and to define the extent of mineralisation.

With results received from 12 holes and assays pending for another 12, Great Southern has already outlined significant mineralisation that remains open to the north, south and at depth.

Next steps

The company plans to aggressively explore Southern Star to expand mineralisation along strike and at depth.

As such it plans to drill more holes at Southern Star and other regional prospects once the rig is done drilling at the nearby One Weight Wonder prospect.
