Miramar’s Glandore East target at its Glandore project near Kalgoorlie is looking the goods after the second diamond hole also intersected visible gold.

Hole GDDD002 was drilled about 40m south of GDDD001 and intersected multiple zones of quartz veining with sulphides and visible gold in a quartz vein at a down-hole depth of 152.5m.

It also intersected granodiorite, intruded by multiple felsic porphyry dikes and quartz veins, before being terminated at 169.06m.

With the first hole having also intersected visible gold, which is certainly not an everyday occurrence, Miramar Resources (ASX:M2R) has now confirmed the presence of shallow (possibly high-grade) gold mineralisation over a strike of at least 100m and down to a vertical depth of 130m.

And while assay results will still be critical to determining exactly what Miramar’s drilling seems to be turning up, the results to date appear to validate its decision to follow up on a historical intercept of 6m at 29.8 grams per tonne (g/t) gold at the contact between a layered mafic sill and a later granitoid intrusion.

“We believe there is potential for multiple NNE-trending high-grade veins at Glandore East, as well as substantial supergene gold mineralisation,” executive chairman Allan Kelly said.

“The second hole appears to confirm this interpretation and we look forward to the results of this hole.”

Miramar has now moved the drill rig to the GDDD003 location about 40m north of the section containing the historical intersections and GDDD001.

It is also awaiting assay results from recently completed aircore drilling at the Boorara North, Whaleshark and Randalls projects.

Drill program

The diamond drilling program at Glandore East is designed to test the target with multiple diamond holes over a strike length of about 500m.

While the first hole encountered difficulties at the contact between the base of lake sediments and weathered basement, resulting in core loss in the upper part of the 78.66m hole, it was nonetheless considered a success after coarse visible gold was observed towards the bottom.

Assaying of GDDD001 has also proved that high-grade gold is present with several zones of mineralisation intersected such as 2m at 2.45g/t gold from 32m, 1.3m at 3.34g/t gold from 47m and 0.7m at 13.85g/t gold from 65.98m (where the coarse visible gold was noted).
