Galan has partnered with leading sustainable supply chain traceability provider Circulor to underpin its environmental, social and governance performance.

Under the agreement, Circulor will establish full lithium traceability and dynamic CO2 and ESG tracking of the company’s lithium brine assets in Argentina’s lithium triangle.

Dynamic metrics such as CO2 intensity, water usage and energy mix will be digitised from project samples and made available for potential downstream markets, enabling Galan Lithium (ASX:GLN) to demonstrate sustainability and compliance with regulatory requirements under EU Battery Regulations and other international legislation.

“We are excited about being able to underpin the ESG performance of our assets, our products and our supply chains,” managing director Juan Pablo Vargas de la Vega said.

“Making this visible and easily traceable for our markets distinguishes our products and will help future customers make their complex supply chains more transparent.

“It also reinforces our commitment to sustainability for our markets and other stakeholders.”

Circulor director of business development Yue Jin Tay said that as businesses advance initiatives to decarbonise their supply chains and improve ESG performance, supply chain traceability and transparency allowed them to make more informed decisions in support of these objectives while providing customers with insights into the environmental and social impacts.

Lithium brine projects

Galan is currently preparing to carry out the next round of drilling at its Hombre Muerto West project to convert some of its high grade resource into a maiden reserve.

The project has a resource of 2.3 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent with substantial exploration upside.

A definitive feasibility study is underway at Hombre Muerto West, which is adjacent to ground held by Livent, one of the world’s largest lithium producers.

The company also holds the Candelas project that hosts a 15km long by 3-5km wide valley filled channel which project geophysics and drilling indicates could hold a substantial volume of brine.

Additionally, the project could provide a substantial amount of processing water by treating its low-grade brines with reverse osmosis.

In Australia, Galan has the Greenbushes South project in Western Australia about 15km south of the major Greenbushes mine.
