But first…

The day ahead

Investors will be wanting to hear the details of President-Elect Joe Biden’s proposed ‘economic rescue package’ for the American economy.

The package is set to be delivered to the US Congress on Thursday evening, US time, and there is speculation the amount involved could add up to $US2 trillion ($2.5 trillion).

Bond yields, the effective rate of interest, on 10-year US Treasuries went up to 1.1 per cent ahead of Biden’s speech, and were trading at 0.9 per cent last week.

Higher bond rates could start to impact prices for alternative assets such as gold or cryptocurrencies which have already been unsettled this week.
