Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: who’s popping corks today

Here are the key ASX small cap winners and losers at lunch Monday Sep 3:

The ASX Small Ords was down 6.2 points or 0.21 per cent to 2,884 at 12.45pm AEST.

GOING UP

Coughing app maker ResApp (ASX:RAP) was at one point today the ASX’s biggest mover, following positive results from its Australian paediatric study aimed at diagnosing respiratory disease.

When it hit an intraday high of 28c, a 44 per cent rise on the previous day’s closing price of 19.5c, it was briefly the biggest gainer of all companies on the ASX.

More than 13 million shares have traded hands, though it has calmed slightly to 26c. We’re still awaiting news on its stop-start American trial — the one that failed horribly last year.

Connexion Media (ASX:CXZ), maker of software for smart cars, rose 40 per cent this morning to 0.7c after it announced it had received subscriptions for 110 million new shares at 0.6c.

The placement raised up to $658,000 and will be used as working capital to help Connexion develop products for General Motors. The company announced late last week that it had been awarded a three-year contract to make software for the motoring giant.

Mineral explorer AustSino (ASX:ANS) was up 18 per cent this morning to 1.7c, its highest point in a month.

The company had no new news today but last week announced it had 172 million shares coming out of escrow this Wednesday. It also appointed a new director to the board, Dr Bielin Shi, a 30-year mining industry veteran.

Castillo Copper (ASX:CCZ) rose 16 per cent to an intraday high of 5.7c, before cooling to 4.9c.

The company this morning reported exceptional high-grade results at its Cangai copper project.

GOING DOWN

Infant formula play Jatenergy (ASX:JAT), the year’s best-returning stock in the subsector, fell 21 per cent to an intraday low of 5.3c on nearly 10 million volume.

The company had to release an amended preliminary final report clarifying statements abotu its cash outflow.

Agriculture company Jiajiafu (ASX:JJF) fell 20 per cent to 12c after telling investors this morning that a flood in Qingzhou, where its eco-park is located, had caused damage to the company’s greenhouses and would require $3 million to repair.

Entertainment company Megastar Millionaire (ASX:MSM) fell 19 per cent to an all-time low of 0.9c after the company’s full-year results revealed revenue was down 51 per cent and the loss worsened by 49 per cent to $18.9 million.
