ASX investors were in risk-on mode today and small caps ran particularly hot.

The ASX Emerging Companies Index gained 1.87 per cent, reaching 2,044.2 points by the market close. The ASX Small Ords gained 1.4 per cent, finishing the day at 3,139.9 and the ASX 200 gained 1.49 per cent ending up at 6,762.6.

The ASX’s biggest winner was Rent.com.au (ASX:RNT), finishing the day 202 per cent higher than it opened after a $2 million investment from Bevan Slattery.

Among large caps the biggest winners were financials and resources.

One of 2020’s biggest bombshells in the large cap resources sector – the merger of Northern Star Resources (ASX:NST) and Saracen Mineral Holdings (ASX:SAR) – was rubber stamped by WA’s Supreme Court this afternoon.

 

Announcements

InteliCare (ASX:ICR) signed a 5 year Master Supply Agreement with Optus. The major telco will provide InteliCare products to Optus’ business partners.

Healthia (ASX:HLA) released its anticipated earnings for the most recent half yearly period. It is expecting earnings to be between $10.7 million and $11.7 million which is between 86 per cent and 103 per cent higher than the prior corresponding period.

King Island Scheelite (ASX:KIS) announced the receipt of a $10 million funding package from the Tasmanian government. The proceeds will support the company’s redevelopment of its tungsten project on King Island.

Plant-based cheese? It’s a thing and there’s now an ASX stock in it. Pure Foods Tasmania (ASX:PFT) announced the acquisition of Lauds Plant Based Foods which delves in this market which according to the company is $3.9 billion.

Apollo Consolidated (ASX:AOP) has bought further tenure at its Lake Rebecca gold project in WA. The area adds another 400m to the east and 400m to the north of its existing tenure – land previously belonging to Bulletin Resources (ASX:BNR) & Matsa Resources (ASX:MAT).

Sports prediction app SportsHero (ASX:SHO) reported record monthly user growth generating 586,296 new unique users in January.
