Last Orders: Mixed day for ASX stocks, but Lefroy more than triples

ASX stocks had a mixed day, but rocking the markets was a gold discovery from Lefroy Exploration (ASX:LEX), which sent it up 237 per cent.

The WA focused explorer first listed in late 2016 and reached an all time high of 69 cents after a major intercept at its Burns prospect of:

60m at 5.22g/t gold and 0.38 per cent copper from 112m down-hole, including
20m at 12.2g/t gold, 0.87 per cent copper and 1.7g/t silver from 144m.

The rest of the markets were more subdued with the ASX Emerging Companies Index falling 0.65 per cent to 2,095 points and the ASX Small Ords rising a modest 0.15 per cent to 3,180.

The ASX 200 meanwhile gained 0.86 per cent to 6,839 points – in a result driven largely by energy and materials.

Information Technology was the biggest laggards with its second worst day of 2021 – a move analysts put down to rising bond yields.

Austral Gold (ASX:AGD) has become one of the small cap resources stocks to pay a dividend. It will be paying US$3.8 million – worth AU$0.008 per share – generated from its Guanaco and Amancaya mines.
