Victoria has ended the week still firmly entrenched in crisis mode, with an Australian daily record 428 new COVID-19 cases overnight.

The announcement took some shine of a fairly solid start on the ASX, as stocks shrugged off some selling in the US market.

Netflix shares fell more than 10 per cent in after-hours trade after its Q4 earnings announcement missed expectations, but that wasn’t enough to rattle US futures markets which are still pointing slightly higher.

With markets treading water into the end of the week, it makes for an interesting setup with additional government stimulus efforts now set to come into focus.

The Morrison government is scheduled to make an update on extensions to its JobKeeper program next Thursday, while US lawmakers are busy preparing another aid package set to be announced before the end of the month.

There were no major moves to end the week, although investors approved of Azure Minerals’ (ASX:AZS) decision to enter into two sale & exploration joint venture agreements with successful mining prospector Mark Creasy.

The deal will see Azure take a greater-than 50 per cent share of two projects; gold exploration at Turner River (near De Grey Mining’s (ASX:DEG) Mallina project) and a nickel-copper project at Andover.

In return, the company will issue 40m shares, which will see the Creasy Group emerge as Azure’s largest shareholder with a 19.1 per cent stake.
