On Wednesday Wall Street ended higher – its third straight session of gains – as the Democrat-controlled senate moves to allow a proposed $US1.9 trillion COVID-19 aid bill to pass without Republican support.

The GameStop rollercoaster hit a stable patch, gaining 2.7 per cent overnight.

While the wild share price swings in meme stocks like GameStop has subsided, retail trading activity like this is likely “to be here for a while”, Michael O’Rourke, chief market strategist at US-based JonesTrading told Morningstar.

“I don’t know if it’s going to be here with the same intensity … It’s hard to maintain that type of intensity,” he says.

“What we’ll probably see are coordinated movements in individual names by that crowd.”

Lithium play and ASX_Bets flavour of the week Lake Resources (ASX:LKE) made some much-needed gains today.

The stock, which had peaked at ~40c per share late January before dropping 40 per cent, had some punters asking:

All you LKE peeps who bought the peak… from r/ASX_Bets

On Tuesday, King Island Scheelite (ASX:KIS) scored a $10m loan from the Tasmanian Government to support redevelopment of the Dolphin tungsten project.

Since then, the stock has gained 108 per cent.

Tungsten is a critical mineral – like rare earths, lithium, and cobalt – and a key input “to industries that are vital to national security”, KIS boss Johann Jacobs says.

“This funding empowers us to continue our development program at Dolphin, which hosts one of the few high quality tungsten deposits remaining in the Western world.”

Energy microplay Global Oil & Gas (ASX:GLV) has gained a key approval to explore for helium and hydrogen in the Northern Territory.

Oneview Healthcare (ASX:ONE) – already +77.8 per cent after signing a distribution agreement with Samsung to deliver bedside digital services to US patients – was up again today on a business update.

‘The most popular lithium stock on the ASX’ – Vulcan Energy (ASX:VUL) – just completed a mammoth $120m institutional placement to accelerate project development.

Cornerstone investment came from Gina Rinehart-led Hancock, “one of the most successful private companies in Australian history and a leader in the resources industry”.

The Vulcan share price is now up from 19c to $9.28 over the past 12 months.
