The period in between Christmas and the first Monday of the year was quiet, but not everyone was on holidays with a handful of ASX small cap directors making some big trades.
Dale Elphinstone from engineering firm Engenco (ASX:EGN) trumped everyone else by buying $1.81m of shares on market.
Many shareholders would love to be invested in companies in Engenco’s position. It made a profit before tax of over $10m for two years running and is paying dividends.
And Engenco told shareholders at its AGM late last year that things were going to get even better due to increased infrastructure investment by the government and private sectors.
The only other buyer was Jatenergy’s (ASX:JAT) Wilton Yao, who bought $100,000 in the company’s rights issue. Jatenergy has been listed since 2008 and has been in almost every sector.
The company claims to be a specialist in Australia-China trade, although its main focus has been in infant formula. It is also one of only three stocks on the ASX involved in plant based meat.
But Elphinstone and Yao were easily outnumbered by the sellers.
US-focused mobile health technologies firm G Medical Innovations Holdings (ASX:GMV) saw 105 per cent year-on-year growth.
It promised 2020 would be even better, saying it would expand into even more states in the year ahead.
But director Yacov Geva sold just over $1m worth of shares to institutional investors. The company told shareholders he had to repay a personal loan to JP Morgan.
Process management software provider Objective Corporation (ASX:OCL) also had a good year — climbing 137 per cent in 12 months. However, director Nick Kingsbury sold $704,790 worth of shares, but did not offer up a reason for the sale.
Velocity Property Group (ASX:VP7) managing director Brendon Ansell sold $859,535 worth of shares. The property developer specialises in lifestyle communities in southeast Queensland.
Finally, Kent Grogan from beer maker Broo (ASX:BEE) sold $980,000 worth of shares.
