Special Report: Ed-tech company Schrole Group (ASX:SCL) has landed an important board appointment with the addition of James King as a non-executive director.

King’s previous board experience includes a 12-year directorship at tertiary education scale-up Navitas, which listed in 2004 and was a standout performer on the ASX before its acquisition by private equity firm BGH Capital earlier this year.

King also served as chairman and director of JB Hi-Fi after a successful executive career, where he was managing director of Carlton & United Breweries in Melbourne as well as Fosters Asia.

Speaking with Stockhead, King said he was introduced to the team at Schrole through industry connections from his work with Navitas, and was excited by the opportunity to apply his knowledge as the company looks to execute on its next phase of growth.

Schrole’s core product is its Advantage software – an online recruitment platform focused on the rapidly expanding market for international schools.

The company found its early competitive advantage by leveraging the experience of managing director Rob Graham, who has 20 years of experience as a principal and strong networks among elite international schools in the Asia Pacific.

“Obviously Asia isn’t just one market,” King said.

“There are different regulations and cultures and you need to be cognisant of that.”

“I think having knowledge of Asia and an understanding of how it works has been an advantage for me in both my board career and executive career.”

“I’m really keen to get started – it’s a terrific field, the company’s got good people and it’s an industry I know something about so I’m happy to join Schrole and offer my expertise.”
