Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: Who’s a bit wobbly on their High Horse today?

Of all the deodorant ads ever, Old Spice’s “I’m on a horse” guy took the cake. But we may never see his like again.

Why? A group of Portuguese researchers have found textiles infused with a fragrance that not only masks sweat but churns out a pleasant smell.

A protein found in pigs’ snouts and a carbon-hydrate binding module binds scent molecules to the cotton. A quick burst of scent is released that smells nothing like sweat.

Don’t know what we’re talking about when we say ‘Old Spice’ or haven’t seen it in a while? This banter it had with detergent maker Tide may jog your memory.

US markets got off their high horse of expecting a cycle of rate cuts, falling another 1 per cent overnight. Our markets have followed suit. The ASX Small Ords is down 0.30 per cent to 2,932 while the ASX 200 is down 0.53 per cent to 6,753.1.

In data today, retail turnover rose 0.4 per cent in June, reasonably adjusted and all categories rose except department stores.

Going up

Who doesn’t love a tax refund? MetalsTech (ASX: MTC) will get $2m of it from Canadian tax authorities and shareholders sent it up 36 per cent.

Today’s biggest gainer was scaffold lessor Oldfields Holdings (ASX: OLH). It jumped 60 per cent despite having no news all quarter except a replacement of its company secretary.

YPB Group (ASX: YPB) fell 25 per cent. Despite announcing it had issued 75 million ProtectCodes, its quarterly showed it was still bleeding cash and it undertook a $1.6 million capital raise.

Vmoto (ASX: VMT) fell 14 per cent after sales went backwards last quarter.
