Special report: Listed defence tech company Xtek (ASX:XTE) has received the first Australian customer order for its proprietary Small Arms Protective Insert plates, from the Australian Defence Force.

Xtek, a provider of protection and sustainment solutions for the government, law enforcement, military and commercial sectors, announced the order to the ASX on Thursday.

It’s the first order from the ADF for their high-end ballistic armour produced in-house at Xtek’s Adelaide manufacturing plant using Xtek’s XTclave technology.

A sample of the armour plates will be evaluated by the ADF’s Diggerworks lab.

The deciding factor was the significant reduction in weight of the XTclave SAPI plates when compared to other equipment that provides similar levels of protection.

The purchase follows an order in late 2017 for the plates from FY Composites, a supplier to the Finnish Defence Force.

Xtek makes these lightweight body armour plates for defence customers.
