Special Report: Animoca Brands’ Christmas digital collectables are proving a hit with customers.
Stryking Entertainment, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, auctioned off seven bundles of official FC Bayern Munich “Christmas 2019 Edition” non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles for 240.9649 Ethereum (a form of cryptocurrency). The sale amounts to about $US31,100 in fiat currency.
Germany-based Stryking owns the popular fantasy sports game Football-Stars and has licensing agreements with the Bundesliga, Germany’s top football league, and the globally recognised football club Bayern Munich.
Animoca Brands (ASX:AB1) acquired Stryking Entertainment for $1.58m in April 2019. Since the acquisition, Stryking has introduced blockchain functionality on its platform, where players use NFTs to build a collection of digital assets based on their favourite soccer players and teams.
Founded in 1900, Bayern Munich is the most successful club in German football history, with a record of winning 29 national titles and 19 national cups.
Stryking began a series of auctions for the Christmas 2019 Edition cards on December 20. The cards are special edition official digital collectibles of the FC Bayern Munich football team. Stryking says they are “unique cryptographic tokens with rarity, authenticity, and ownership secured and guaranteed by blockchain technology”.
Both editions are extremely rare collectibles. There are only two sets of 24 cards for each edition, one for each of the FC Bayern Munich players of the 2019/2020 season. One set was put on auction in six bundles of four cards each, while the other set was put on auction in one complete bundle of 24 cards.
The new owners of these cards have a true digital ownership over the collectibles. They can do whatever they want with them, from selling them to using them in any supported blockchain games.
Stryking is now offering its New Year 2020 Edition Legendary Player Cards until January 6. Bids can be placed at http://presale.stryking.io.
Stryking introduced “a major innovation in the blockchain space” by providing a money-back guarantee along with the limited-edition collectables.
Buyers are granted an initial three-month cool down period, after which they have 30 days to return the FC Bayern Munich Player Cards or bundles to Stryking for a full refund (minus applicable gas fees).
