West Wits Mining farm-in partner Rio Tinto Exploration (RTX) has wrapped up a Downhole Electromagnetic (DHEM) survey at the Mt Cecelia gold-nickel-copper project in the Paterson Province of WA.

The exploration program at Mt Cecelia is managed by RTX under a $10m farm-in/JV agreement for RIO to earn up to 80% interest in the project – which notably is in a district that hosts several world-class projects such as the Woodie Woodie manganese mine, Nifty copper and Telfer gold/copper/silver mines.

The DHEM survey RTX completed was focused on better assessing the conductivity anomalism in the area of three Reverse Circulation (RC) drill holes that intersected gold mineralisation and sulphides at the primary target SGC_1 in 2022.

And the results have identified potential in two modelled conductivity ‘plates’ to extend the sulphide zones (and possibly gold mineralisation) intersected in holes WEW005 and WEWI001, which returned assays in January of:

  • 56m at 0.55g/t gold from 194m including 20m at 0.93g/t gold from 194m (WEWI0001) and;
  • 82m at 0.51g/t gold from 128m including 24m at 0.95g/t gold from 150m (WEWI0004).

Diamond drilling is now being considered for Q3/Q4 to provide better information regarding the character and continuity of mineralisation.

Mt Cecelia exploration in full swing

“We are pleased with the successful completion of the DHEM survey at the Mt Cecelia project,” West Wits Mining (ASX:WWI) chairman Michael Quinert said.

“The identification of potential extensions in the modelled plates provides encouragement for potential follow up drilling at the project and we look forward to the continuation of the 2023 Field Season at Mt Cecelia.”

The next steps for exploration at Mt Cecelia include the potential diamond drilling to test the interpreted conductors at SGC_1, where RTX will utilise existing heritage cleared areas.

In addition, the ongoing interpretation and assessment of the nature of the mineralisation intersected at SGC_1 will be undertaken as a basis for better considering the merits and type of further exploration undertaken at the project.

WWI says the exploration activities and timing will be subject to continuous reassessment due to factors like weather conditions, the timing of heritage clearance, and the availability of drill rigs.
