A maiden fieldwork program has kicked off at Pioneer Lithium’s LaGrande project in Quebec’s James Bay region as MD Clinton Booth gets boots on the ground to finalise upcoming exploration and development work at its Root Lake project in Ontario.
Newly-listed explorer Pioneer Lithium (ASX:PLN) has hit the ground running with lithium exploration across both Quebec and Ontario, where its tenements are located along trend of major discoveries.
The LaGrande project in Quebec is surrounded by huge lithium discoveries, such as Patriot Battery Metals’ (ASX:PMT) district-scale 109.2Mt @ 1.42% Li2O Corvette project and Winsome Resources’ (ASX:WR1) Cancet discovery.
In Ontario, its Root Lake project – where it has now identified a total of 89 new pegmatites – is wedged between Green Technology Metals’ (ASX:GT1) 8.1Mt Root Bay project to the east and its 4.5Mt Morrison-Mccombe pegmatite system to the west.
LaGrande exploration
Fieldwork has begun at its LaGrande project in the highly prospective James Bay lithium district, where the explorer has three project areas – La Grande Quatre East and West, and to the west of those, La Grande Riviere.
Pioneer has commenced a reconnaissance exploration program to enhance the understanding of the project areas to plan future exploration work.
Prospecting, sampling and mapping activities are expected to take approximately three weeks.
Senior Management visit
MD Clinton Booth and executive chair Robert Martin visited the Root Lake project in Ontario to finalise camp and staffing requirements and to review geological data, while prestart meetings were held at site with various contractors for the upcoming winter drilling program.
The pair also visited the large pegmatite swarm in the central corridor zone of Root Lake where exploration uncovered mineralised pegmatites along strike and near the fence line of GT1’s large pegmatite discovery.
Meetings were also held in Toronto with various ministries, including Indigenous Affairs and Northern Development and Mining and Energy to finalise exploration campaigns.
“It was a tremendous opportunity to see first-hand the prospecting and mapping work performed at Root Lake, visit the camp laydown area and to discuss plans for the winter drilling campaign,” Booth says.
“Being able to experience the high-quality road network which provides direct access to the site as well as the internal project access roads was invaluable. This experience provides great insights as we plan our future activities.
“There was significant support across the ministries for the critical minerals sector and Pioneer Lithium, and we were able to discuss key infrastructure, regulatory and social requirements which will support the development of Root Lake.
“Whilst in Toronto and Thunder Bay, we met with various goods and service providers, confirming the availability of these organisations to support our immediate and future activities at Root Lake.”
