Voltaic secures ‘critical’ Gascoyne exploration ground

Voltaic has expanded its footprint in WA’s Gascoyne region after it was granted two tenements totalling 490km2 across the Talga and Kooline projects.

More than half of the company’s Gascoyne Critical Minerals project tenements are now granted, allowing for rapid advancement of exploration for lithium, rare earths, nickel, copper, cobalt, and gold.

Voltaic Strategic Resources (ASX:VSR) has already started data compilation and target generation work at the two projects.

Previous work had confirmed widespread pegmatites within a 22km lithium-caesium-tantalum corridor at the Ti Tree lithium project and the REE potential of the broader project area.

Multi-element potential

Kooline is northwest of Paraburdoo and 40km south of the Paulsens gold mine which has produced over 900,000oz of gold since 2005.

It is located within the west-northwest trending regional Wyloo anticlinal dome, which is prospective for gold, copper-gold and base metals.

Historical surface sampling and limited shallow drilling by NSR within the 303km2 E08/3314 exploration licence identified gold anomalism which warrants follow-up work.

Talga consists of one granted exploration licence E08/3420 (Talga West) covering 185km2 and one exploration licence application E08/3303 (Talga East) covering 144km2 about 350km northeast of Carnarvon.

It overlays the Talga Fault Zone, a major northwest-southeast fault with historical potential for both nickel-copper-cobalt-platinum group element and cobalt-bearing manganese mineralisation.

Historical surface sampling identified anomalous nickel-copper-cobalt mineralisation associated with a large dolerite/gabbro dyke that were never followed up while a VTEM survey identified numerous geophysical anomalies associated with the dyke which were never drill tested.

Interpreted dykes within Talga are potentially analogous to the recent ‘Money Intrusion’ dyke that has produced Dreadnought Resources’ nickel sulphide discovery at the Mangaroon project about 130km to the west.

Planned activity

Initial exploration at Kooline will consist of validating previous rock chip and soil sampling where gold has been identified, along with field reconnaissance programs comprising outcrop structural mapping, rock chip and soil sampling.

This will be followed by an airborne magnetic survey to refine targets.

Should results from this first phase be favourable, a second phase of exploration consisting of preliminary drilling will be carried out to test the grade, thickness, and depth extensions of mineralisation at the targets and further geophysical surveying.

At Talga, Voltaic will start exploration with the acquisition and re-processing of all geophysical data, focussing on the 2007 VTEM survey, and a field reconnaissance program comprising outcrop structural mapping, rock chip sampling and soil sampling.

It will then carry out an airborne electromagnetic survey or induced polarisation survey will be undertaken to refine targets.

This could then lead to the next phase of exploration, which will consist of preliminary drilling to test the grade, thickness, and depth extensions of mineralisation at the targets, and either a ground electromagnetic or induced polarisation survey as appropriate.
