Alicanto’s (ASX:AQI) maiden 3000m drilling campaign at the historic Sala project in Sweden is off to a great start, with visible silver, lead and zinc mineralisation hit in the first two diamond drill holes.

The holes intersected multiple zones in both holes (totalling 33.8m and 32.02m) of Sala-style silver galena-sphalerite mineralisation and native silver.

The drilling at the Prince Lode also included a ‘step out’, 140m down dip of the historic intersections of 37.2m at 50 g/t silver and  6.1% zinc, and 15.9m at 157 g/t silver and 4.2% zinc.

Assays are pending.

Third hole underway

Drilling is ongoing, with a second rig set to arrive on site in the coming weeks.

“Drilling is continuing to progress with a third hole underway and an additional drill rig secured and commencing drilling in the middle of the month,” managing director Peter George said.

Exceptionally high silver grades

Sala is 100km from Alicanto’s Greater Falun copper-gold project and 50km from Boliden’s operating Garpenberg Mine, once Europe’s largest silver producer.

The Sala mine produced more than 200 million oz of silver at an estimated grade of 1,244 g/t, with local grades reported as high as 7,000 g/t, and also produced lead at average grades of between 1 and 2% and 12% zinc.

Historic mining operations at Sala ceased in 1908 and the company is undertaking some of the first modern drilling to be completed at the deposit.
