Barton’s wait for assays from its May drilling program at the Tunkilla project in South Australia has paid off with the discovery of Area 51 as its newest gold zone.

Results such as 17m grading 3.2 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from a down-hole depth of 77m including 10m at 4.77g/t gold from 78m and 25m at 1.51g/t gold from 81m were highlights from the drill program where all 12 holes intersected the mineralised position across every drilled section to define the third new zone at Tunkilla.

Mineralisation at Area 51, which is located about 3.5km northwest of the cornerstone 965,000oz 223 Deposit, has been defined to a strike length of about 500m and remains open to the north, south and at depth.

The discovery is also further evidence that Barton Gold’s (ASX:BGD) regional geophysical modelling is working, given that the find is the third success – following last year’s 223 North and Area 191 discoveries – predicted by this work.

Separately, drilling at the 223 North area returned multiple intersections with greater than 0.5g/t gold.

These results will be integrated with earlier drilling prior to planning further exploration.

“We are very pleased with these results, which confirm another new gold zone at Tunkillia and further demonstrate the substantial gold endowment of the Yarlbrinda Shear Zone,” managing director Alex Scanlon said.

“As the footprint of this project grows with each program, we are increasingly excited about the scale potential of this system.

“With these results now in hand, our next Tunkillia drilling program is set to commence very shortly, with the objective to support an updated Mineral Resources Estimate for the Tunkillia Project.”

Recent and upcoming activity

The discovery of a third new zone at Tunkilla follows on drilling extending the Perseverance West gold zone at the Tarcoola project.

Assays such as 2m grading 7.07 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from a down-hole depth of 52m and 4m at 1.85g/t gold from 151m including 1m at 4.8g/t gold from 151m also validate prior drilling results, which confirms southern strike and depth extensions of the shallow Perseverance open pit.

Barton plans to kick off drilling at the 223 Deposit to support an update to the Tunkilla resource. It will also evaluate the Area 51 results for potential follow-up drilling.
