Sultan’s reconnaissance exploration of the Ruddy project in northwest Ontario, Canada, is off to a flying start with multiple pegmatite occurrences noted.

Exploration carried out by contractor Apex Geoscience is initially focused on an interpreted “LCT Goldilocks Zone” identified by other lithium explorers in the region, which covers about 3.5km of east-west strike in the centre to south of Ruddy.

Helicopter-supported geologists have already noted multiple pegmatite occurrences of up to 30m outcrop and up to 15m in width within this zone.

Given the success to date, Sultan Resources (ASX:SLZ) has opted to extend the duration of exploration activities to better assess the project’s potential.

“The swift commencement of Canadian exploration for Sultan represents an exciting time for shareholders, with initial observations matching our enthusiasm for the area, and we look forward to fully informing the market upon receipt of results from this first phase of activity,” chairman Jeremy King said.

Ruddy lithium project

The Ruddy project directly abuts ground to the west held by fellow Australian Green Technology Metals in Ontario about 162km north-northeast of Dryden town.

It covers 10km2 of ground on the northern extremity of the Allison Lake Batholith, a fertile intrusive responsible for the development of proximal fractionated pegmatites with potential to host lithium, caesium and tantalum (LCT) mineralisation.

Although there is no documented exploration over the ground, a previous study of the area by the Ontario Geological Survey described the margin of the Allison Lake Batholith as being “…an important new exploration target for rare-element mineralisation and is the largest such granite thus far documented in Ontario…”

This includes spodumene-type pegmatites in an interpreted ‘LCT Goldilocks Zone’ of increased fractionation from the parent granite.

Sultan noted that Apex geologists observed evidence of pegmatite fractionation minerals in the form of apatite or beryl from limited available outcrop.
