Rock chip revelation: New gold zone at Mako’s Tchaga North returns up to 76.10 g/t

Special report: Mako Gold geologists continue to yield impressive results via mapping and rock chip sampling with early indications pointing to a new high-grade zone at Tchaga North.

Recent work at Mako Gold’s (ASX:MKG) Napié project in Côte d’Ivoire has centred around generating new targets at Tchaga North, a prospect the explorer considers to be of the highest priority.

The western part of this area has been identified as being a high-grade gold target by the company’s previous reverse circulation (RC) program, which returned values up to 1m at 44.86 g/t gold.

It also hosts the deepest artisanal mining site on the Napié permit with depths of around 30-40m – from MKG’s point of view, artisanal miners wouldn’t be chasing quartz veins to those depths if they were not high grade.

Since there is very little outcrop at Tchaga North, artisanal mining provides excellent new rock exposures for geological mapping and sampling, one of the benefits from working in Côte d’Ivoire.

 

Rock chip results up to 76.10 g/t gold

MKG’s ongoing rock chip sampling program has unveiled a new high-grade gold zone called the ‘Central Zone’ with rock chip returning 76.10 g/t gold, 24.34 g/t gold, 12.95 g/t gold and 6.92 g/t gold.

Most of the samples were collected from quartz veins associated with the recently identified east-west structural trends which have yet to be tested by drilling.

The sample which returned 76.10g/t gold was taken from an in-situ quartz vein striking east-west at a new artisanal mining site, where previous drill holes were drilled to the east and would not have intersected the newly discovered high-grade quartz veins which are oriented east-west.

So far, the geological mapping and rock chip sampling program has turned up three high-grade gold zones along a 6km corridor including the Central Zone, the Ladder Zone and the Double Zone.

 

‘A new standout’

“We are thrilled with the discovery of yet another high-grade zone on Tchaga North, with early indications from rock chips pointing towards this area being a new standout,” MKG managing director Peter Ledwidge says.

“Detailed geological mapping is continuing to yield excellent results, including this newly discovered zone which adds to the inventory of high-grade gold at the prospect.”

 

Trenching program at Tchaga North kicks off

Ledwidge says the logical next step is to trench these three zones to map and take continuous samples of host rock and quartz veins.

Results of the trenching program will assist in planning a drill program at these areas to target high-grade gold.
