Narryer has kicked off maiden exploration at its namesake project in Western Australia which targets high value magmatic nickel-copper-PGE sulphide deposits.
The current airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over the Mt Nairn tenements will also attempt to pick up hints of rare earth elements after its neighbour Krakatoa discovered clay-hosted REEs at Mt Clere just days before the company listed on the ASX in mid-April.
And that’s just the initial part of Narryer Metals’ (ASX:NYM) aggressive push to acquire geophysical data across its project that will see more than $500,000 worth of expenditure within the first month of listing.
Up next is a helicopter-borne electromagnetic survey at the Mt Nairn and Mt Gould tenements from the middle of this month that targets massive nickel sulphides across the project.
The company has also committed to start in early June an on-ground stream sediment survey targeting REEs and PGEs throughout the Milly Milly area – a 20km zone of mafic and ultramafic intrusives where rock chip sampling has returned up to 0.6% nickel.
Additionally, Petratherm’s (ASX:PTR) REE discovery at the Comet project in South Australia in similar geology to its Sturt project has spurred further exploration programming this quarter.
Geophysical surveys to guide the way forward
The 2,332 line km helicopter EM survey that seeks to identify massive sulphides below the surface is a key work program for the company.
It covers the Mt Nairn and Mt Gould tenements that cover about 1,900sqkm of granted tenure within the Narryer project.
These tenements are located along the western edge of the Archaean Yilgarn Craton, a well-known nickel province that is also home to Chalice Mining’s (ASX:CHN) Julimar nickel-copper-PGE discovery.
The Narryer project area shows evidence of mafic-ultramafic intrusive from field exposure and magnetics data while recent drilling by Desert Metals (ASX:DM1) has shown that the Narryer Terrane has the potential to contain nickel sulphides mineralisation along strike from Mt Nairn.
Meanwhile, the current magnetic and radiometric survey covers the Taccabba Well area which covers 660sqkm of Mt Nairn that previously had low resolution magnetics and radiometric open file data.
This survey will provide a better definition of the geology in targeting both nickel-copper-PGEs and REE mineralisation.
The Taccabba Well mafic ultramafic complex has previously been interpreted by the company to extend over 25km of strike and has seen limited previous exploration as it is largely under alluvial cover.
Historical drilling has identified multiple chromite bands, which are often associated with layered PGE deposits.
Radiometric data will be scoured for uranium and thorium anomalism, which can assist in vectoring to REE mineralisation similar to Krakatoa Resources’ (ASX:KTA) clay-hosted ionic and alluvial-hosted find at the nearby Mt Clere.
