Results of a VTEM survey along the fertile gold ground along the Ravenswood corridor are expected to illuminate the prospectivity of one of the region’s forgotten gold targets.
Killi Resources (ASX:KLI) has just completed a VTEM Max heli-survey covering some 790 line kilometres over the 300sqkm it controls on two of the tenements at its Ravenswood North project in Queensland.
It is one of the first major instances of modern exploration technique applied to the project at its Rocky gold, silver, copper and molybdenum anomaly.
With results on the way, a soil sampling program has also recommenced with grids to cover multiple targets and extend the current grid at Rocky.
It will also assess geophysical anomalies to the north and follow up historic stream sediment samples, untested despite the identification of grades like 1390ppb, 610ppb, 270ppb and 280ppb gold generated around 40 years ago.
Survey to light up new targets
The VTEM technique is known for its ability to highlight potential mineral deposits under deep cover which would have been missed by the old timers and has been developed to locate discrete conductive anomalies as well as lateral and vertical variations in resistivity.
It is particularly good at identifying sulphide mineralisation like that found in the Ravenswood district.
Mines boasting 26Moz of gold mineralisation including the Ravenswood, Mt Leyshon, Charters Towers, Mount Wright and Mount Success mines all sit within 60km of Killi’s ground at Ravenswood North.
The final results will be processed in the coming weeks and identify any concealed conductors that may be related to gold and copper mineralisation in the area.
It will also support structural interpretations of the rocks at Ravenswood North and target generation.
“Having the VTEM survey now completed gives us another piece of the geology puzzle on this project. We are all eager to see the results of the survey and generate drill targets for future drill programs,” Killi CEO Kathryn Cutler said.
“The team is now back out on the ground continuing with the soil program which will extend the grid at the Rocky Au-Ag-Cu-Mo anomaly as well as additional grids to follow up historical stream sediment samples and gossanous rocks units identified during recent mapping.
“The existing stream samples we will be following up are interesting with some values up to 610ppb Au which is a high-level gold result. We’re all very keen to see what intrusive-related and epithermal systems we can uncover in this district with the field work completed to date.”
For that soil program, two additional soil grids are planned in the north of the project which will infill existing data and focus on gossanous rocks at surface identified during previous soil and mapping programs.
Assays are still pending for soils and rock chips taken during the first round of the geochemical program, with results expected shortly.
