Lefroy has embarked on a drilling program aimed at extending and advancing its geological understanding of the intriguing Burns copper-gold prospect.
The company is now drilling six reverse circulation (RC) pre-collars that will add to the eight pre-collars that are already in place. This will be followed by a subsequent diamond drill program to test both strike and depth extensions of a standout intersection it reported in February.
And what an intersection it was.
Lefroy Exploration (ASX:LEX) had angled the deep RC hole away from the interpreted intrusion at Burns and struck an extremely thick, high-grade intercept of 60m grading 5.22 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 0.38 per cent copper from 112m down-hole with a standout zone of 20m at 12.2g/t gold, 0.87 per cent copper and 1.7g/t silver from 144m.
Recent interpretation of data indicates that this new Eastern Porphyry has a strike length of at least 200m with the northern extent established by another hole that hit 14m at 0.57g/t gold and 0.09 per cent copper from 152m to end of hole.
“We are very pleased and excited to be back drilling at Burns to follow up and extend the stunning gold copper intersection hosted by porphyry in hole LEFR260,” managing director Wade Johnson said.
“The current RC program is preparing holes to be used for a broad scoping diamond drilling program that aims to both extend and advance the geological understanding of this exciting new porphyry hosted mineral system.
“We also keenly await results for the four diamond holes drilled earlier in the year evaluating the adjacent basalt hosted gold copper silver mineralised zone.”
Drilling of the new RC collars is expected to take six days to complete while the drilling of the diamond tails is expected to begin in early April subject to drill rig availability.

Burns prospect
The Burns prospect is located within the Eastern Lefroy tenement package, which is itself part of the company’s wholly-owned greater Lefroy gold project about 50km southeast of Kalgoorlie.
Burns is on the eastern margin of an interpreted intrusion that does not outcrop and is represented by a distinctive annular aeromagnetic and gravity geophysical signature.
Besides the standout hit at the Eastern Porphyry, initial drilling has also outlined what appears to be a large intrusion-related gold-copper system at Burns.
