Green Technology Metals has secured an early win at its Root project in Ontario, Canada, with inaugural diamond drilling intersecting thick, continuous high-grade spodumene pegmatites from surface.
Notable results from the first nine holes in the Phase 1 diamond drilling program are 12.4m at 1.77% Li2O from a down-hole depth of 11.8m (RL-22-001), 15.3m at 1.2% Li2O from 42.2m (RL-22-002), and 11.5m at 2.03% Li2O from 72m (RL-22-003).
Adding further interest, all 19 holes drilled to date on the McCombe lithium-caesium-tantalum pegmatite system within the project have intersected spodumene bearing pegmatites – a strong indicator that Green Technology Metals (ASX:GT1) is very much on the right track in its goal to delineate a maiden resource.
“Because Root hasn’t been properly explored since 1950, substantial opportunity exists to undertake systematic and modern exploration of this tenure,” chief executive officer Luke Cox said.
“These initial assay results and intercept thicknesses from McCombe are outstanding, and together with mapping of new untested pegmatites, clearly justify the ramping up of our drilling and broader activities at Root over the coming months.”
Two diamond rigs are currently operating around the clock and with the recent successes, will continue progressing the initial program that has been expanded along strike and down dip.
Mapping at Root has already identified new untested spodumene pegmatites along strike while an all-weather 20 person camp is now fully operational with plans for expansion.
Green Technology is also progressing a Stage 1 Archaeology Assessment, desktop and physical inspection.
Advanced lithium prospect
McCombe is currently the most advanced prospect at Root with six holes drilled in 2016 having intersected numerous pegmatites, generally dipping to the south and striking east-west.
Importantly, this work confirmed historical drill results dating back to 1950 and demonstrated the down dip continuity of the lithium mineralisation.
The company’s diamond drilling started in September 2022 with just one rig before it was suspended for two weeks in October to allow First Nation traditional hunting activities to proceed without any interference.
Drilling has since resumed with two rigs with initial interpretation of just two drill fence lines indicating that the pegmatite dips shallowly to the south and strikes east to west.
The pegmatite has also been found to have considerable thickness from surface and continuous high grade, which correlates well with historical drilling.
Further targets include Morrison about 1km to the east where historical drilling has proved that the pegmatites strikes for at least 1.6km while the outcrop of about 200m has been tested by trenching.
Meanwhile, while no drilling has been carried out to test the Root Bay LCT spodumene pegmatites, channel sampling returned an assay of 14m at 1.67% Li2O including 3m at 2.24% Li2O.
Field exploration mapping completed in September and October 2022 located additional spodumene occurrences 300m west along a magnetic and topographic ridge running east-west.
Exploration drilling to test Morrison and Root Bay will be carried out over the next 12 months to build on recent successes at McCombe.
