First pass exploration proves there’s lithium in this Lord’s domain

Lord Resources is off to a good start at its Horse Rocks project near Coolgardie, WA, with first pass exploration identifying three large, high-priority lithium anomalies.

Geochemical sampling returned results of up to 932 parts per million (ppm) lithium, 2,850ppm rubidium and 177ppm caesium while also confirming the presence of lithium-caesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatites and significant indicator minerals over much of the tenure.

Mapping has also identified further lithium-bearing pegmatites which the company will systematically explore in the coming weeks.

While this exploration is very much in its early stages, the result is nonetheless likely to be encouraging for Lord Resources (ASX:LRD) given that Horse Rocks shares the same source granite as Mineral Resources’ Mt Marion lithium project, which has a resource of 51.4Mt grading 1.45% Li2O.

“Elevated near surface lithium and Mt Marion-style indicator mineral anomalies within the geochemical sampling, along with the significant lithium within rock samples is an excellent first step for the project,” managing director Barnaby Egerton-Warburton said.

Horse Rocks project

Horse Rocks, located 20km south of Coolgardie, covers 23.8km2 within a folded portion of an isolated greenstone belt, within the Coolgardie Domain of the Yilgarn Craton.

Notably, the granodiorite Depot Dome is to the immediate east of the greenstones and is the interpreted source of the many pegmatite intrusions within the tenure.

The project is considered to be prospective for pegmatite hosted lithium, nickel sulphide and orogenic gold mineralisation.

Historical drilling has identified elevated nickel within the ultramafic sequences, along with gold anomalism in surface sampling.

Planning is already underway for the next phase of exploration, which will test the newly identified lithium anomalies, with mapping and in-fill surface sampling to begin immediately.

Lord Exploration is looking to vector down on lithium “hotspots” and refine drill targets for the next phase of exploration.
