• Chile’s Cochilco says there will be significant price hikes for lithium from 2031
  • Wildcat Resources roars ahead with Tabba Tabba

All your lithium news, Wednesday May 30.

The Chilean Copper Commission (Cochilco) has forecast a “strong” lithium shortage and significant price hikes from 2031.

The state-run entity reckons annual global demand — 3.8 million tonnes — will far outstrip predicted supply of 2.46 million tonnes by 2035, according to Reuters.

“Lithium projects could increase production by around 2035, narrowing the gap between supply and demand,” Cochilco research head Victor Garay said in a statement.

Chile, the world’s second largest lithium producer behind Australia, estimates it will produce 336,000t per year by 2035, double the 2021 level, Cochilco data showed.

25 lithium stocks were green today, 56 landed flat, while 60 dropped into the red.

WHO’S GOT NEWS OUT?

WILDCAT RESOURCES (ASX:WC8)

WC8 announced the start of field work at its highly prospective Tabba Tabba lithium project in the WA Pilbara.

The company has completed drone photography and a digital elevation survey to pinpoint which pegmatites it will drill first.

Tabba Tabba was once owned by Sons of Gwalia in the early 2000’s, who owned significant projects back then including Pilgangoora, Wodgina and Greenbushes.

38 outcropping pegmatites have been mapped across the tenement package and have demonstrated to contain high-grade lithium mineralisation.

WC8 says it will focus on fast-tracking RC drilling of priority targets and a delineation of pegmatite-hosted LCT mineralisation.

WC8’s Tabba Tabba project is right next door to where FMG drilled out a lithium orebody and since reportedly put in for a mining lease.

The company is looking at a $7m capital raise to further prove up resources at the project.

DYNAMIC METALS (ASX:DYM)

DYM increased its Widgiemooltha project by 220km2 in a region richly-endowed with numerous nickel, gold and lithium operations.

The Widgiemooltha project area is really starting to emerge as a significant lithium belt, and it’s also surrounded by the Mt Marion, Bald Hill and Buldania projects – all within 25km of Dynamic Metals’ (ASX:DYM) tenements.

$11.2m capped DYM is fully funded for exploration activities with $5.62m cash in the bank.

The company is in advanced preparations for a mid-June AC drilling program at its Mandilla, Higginsville and Sunday Soak prospects.

Elsewhere, a follow up drill program at Widgiemooltha’s Dordie Far West prospect is complete with two holes drilled for a total of 300m.

Maiden drilling at the prospect had returned thick, high-grade intercepts such as 16m @ 1.96% nickel from a down-hole depth of 27m, including 5m at 2.84% Ni and multiple intersections such as 15m at 1.56% Ni from 48m including 3m at 2.06% Ni and 6m at 1.6% Ni from 29m in hole WDR003.

Assays have been submitted to the lab and results are expected within eight weeks.

SOLIS MINERALS (ASX:SLM)

SLM is buying the Jaguar lithium project in Brazil, where surface rock chip sampling has returned grades up to 4.95% Li2O.

The company says there’s an extensive spodumene-rich pegmatite body mapped over 1km of strike with wides of more than 50m.

“Brazil is fast becoming a significant player in the hard rock lithium space,” former Delta Lithium (ASX:DLI) boss and current SLM exec director Matt Boyes says.

“Solis’s primary objective is to quickly position itself by acquiring highly prospective underexplored projects in the northeast of Brazil.

“The Jaguar pegmatite hosts confirm LCT-bearing pegmatites with some of the coarsest and most abundant spodumene occurrences I have seen.

“These tenements in what may be a new lithium province are a fantastic addition to our already large tenement position in the northeast of Brazil, and with drilling to commence immediately.”

Alchemy Resources (ASX: ALY)

ALY is about to spin the drills at its Karonie gold-lithium project east of Kalgoorlie, WA.

It will embark on a whopping 5,000m, 42-hole program designed to test high priority gravity anomalies at the Cherry, Hickory, Mesquite and Pecan (did someone say BBQ?) prospects across the identified strike length.

Assays returned from rock chip and soil sampling confirmed near-surface lithium mineralisation, so it’s no wonder ALY is getting out the tools for this.

Additionally, holes have been designed to test the Taupo North target which is 3km west of Hickory and has pegmatites logged in historic holes that have never been assayed for lithium.

“We are really excited to get back on the ground to test these targets following the extensive geochemical and geophysical analysis,” ALY CEO James Wilson said.

We now have seven highly prospective targets, heritage clearance, a drilling contractor and ideal weather conditions ready for the drill campaign at our 100% owned project.”
